JGM served as a key subconsultant on this historic urban street restoration project. JGM’s responsibilities included urban design/streetscape improvements, planting and irrigation design. JGM also consulted on the qualitative aspects of the proposed lighting design.
JGM worked with the team of consultants, city staff and the community. One major challenge was the existing mature Sycamore trees planted in a boulevard median that had infiltrated and compromised the existing combined storm and sanitary sewer system. The plan called for replacement of the system and an upgrade to other utilities. In addition, JGM created a renovated streetscape appropriate to the historic urban context of the 8-block corridor. The selection of street trees, root barriers and irrigation systems were key decisions in the planning and design process.
